The reforestation area of Nahuatzen is located in the heart of the State of Michoacan. It is a very rural region which plays an important ecological role for Central Mexico and the urban area of Mexico City, especially with regard to micro climate, drinking water, and the existing biodiversity. When looking at biological diversity, Michoacan is known worldwide for the Monarch butterfly which uses the forests of Michoacan as hibernation area: the Monarch butterfly amazingly moves over thousands of miles in huge swarms from North America, like migrant birds, to Michoacan.
